Listed below are 11 common Questions and Answers that you may find helpful to be answered before you leave for a holiday in Spain.

  1. Q. Which is the currency being used in Spain?
    A. Euros.
  2. Q. Will I need a passport or Visa to enter Spain?
    A. Spain is a member of the EU, you will need a valid passport but their is no need for a Visa.
  3. Q. Where is the best place to get Euros in the UK?
    A. You should shop around, the non commission shops such as the Post Office are probably best for smaller sums (under £100), whereas Thomas Cook and other Exchanges are often better for larger amounts.
  4. Q. How long is the flight from the UK to Malaga Airport?
    A. The flight takes about two and a half hours (depends upon your airport and wind direction!)
  5. Q. Can I get to a cash machine in Calahonda?
    A. Yes, there is a cash point next to the supermarket about 4 minutes walk away from the apartment, dispensing Euros, for which your bank will probably make a small charge.
  6. Q. Can I use my mobile phone on the Costa del Sol?
    A. Generally the answer is yes, you may need to have your phone enabled for use abroad, this is arranged with your mobile phone company before you leave the UK. There are good mobile services around Calahonda for most networks.
  7. Q. How do I phone the UK from Spain?
    A. From landlines you add 44 to the beginning of the number and remove the first 0. so our number from Spain is: . This usually applies to mobile phones as well, but check with your mobile phone company before departing.
  8. Q. Do I need to be able to Speak Spanish?
    A. No, most Spaniards and other nationalities servicing the Costa del Sol can speak English, but it is polite and satisfying to try some basic Spanish words and phrases such as please, thankyou and hello, why not get a cheap phrase book before you leave?
  9. Q. Can I drink the local water?
    A. The quality of drinking water is much improved in recent years, however you are still probably better off drinking the bottled water, it would be a good idea to pack some diarrhoea tablets for your peace of mind!
  10. Q. How do prices compare to the UK?
    A. Prices are generally very similar, eating out can be a little cheaper though.
